Looking after you
We encourage healthy work practices and lifestyles. The benefits reflect in our exceptional occupational health and safety (OH&S) record. As part of our proactive approach, we facilitate:
- Free annual flu vaccinations
- Health and wellbeing seminars
- Annual health expos
- Eyesight testing
- Ergonomic assessments
- Early intervention program

Also, our social clubs arrange regular activities including happy hours, trivia nights and other social events. Modest membership fees can be deducted fortnightly from your salary.
How we reward you
We encourage a climate of open and honest communication and innovation. We recognise employee achievements through our monthly reward and recognition program and performance development and progression plans (PDPPs). Monthly awards are given for significant individual or team performance or contribution to our goals.
What we pay you
We offer competitive salaries. Most SRO staff are eligible for additional annual progression payments through their PDPPs.
Staff conditions including pay rates are in the current Victorian Public Service Enterprise Agreement 2016. We also comply with the National Fair Work Employment Standards.
We make compulsory employer contributions (currently equal to 9.5 per cent of your salary) into your nominated complying superannuation fund or default industry fund, VicSuper. You may also make extra contributions to your superannuation before or after tax is deducted.
Flex-time (Grades 1-4 only)
This is the time accrued, subject to business needs, beyond the 76 hours required in the regular full-time fortnight. Flex-time is accrued when a staff member starts earlier and/or finishes later than our standard business hours of 8.30am - 4.36pm, excluding a half-hour lunch break.
Subject to business needs, employees can ‘buy’ additional leave for an equivalent reduction in salary spread over 52 weeks. This helps if you need more leave than allocated time allows, such as to cover school holidays, to study for exams or extend a holiday.
Equal opportunity (EO) workplace
Workplace diversity means recognising, respecting and valuing the rich and diverse attributes people can bring to the SRO. We also have obligations to prevent all forms of harassment or discrimination. Our EO policy promotes an environment in which all staff can work free from intrusive or offensive practices and where every person's rights are respected.
Discounted employee benefits
Ballarat office staff may receive corporate rates at Unisports, the Federation University gym.
All Melbourne-based staff employed for more than 12 months may apply for a yearly Myki at a reduced cost. Payment is deducted each fortnight from your salary.
SRO employees may access a discounted health insurance offer through HCF.
