Build your career
We offer career opportunities in accounting, taxation, law, customer service, information technology, policy and legislation, organisation development and management. Our innovative programs and forward thinking has achieved widespread recognition, but it’s our staff members who tell the full story of our success.
Our diverse career development strategies keep staff engaged and enthusiastic. More than 370 career opportunities (promotions, transfers and higher duties assignments) were available in 2010-11, and 59 per cent of vacancies were filled by existing employees.
Learning and development
Our key goal is to have capable, adaptable and engaged people working for us. We achieve this by attracting and selecting skilled and knowledgeable staff, and ensuring that work/life balance, health, safety and wellbeing, performance and career management opportunities are effectively designed, implemented, understood and utilised by all managers and their teams.
We focus heavily on the professional development of our staff by delivering structured learning programs addressing the complexities of the taxes and duties we administer. Our work is closely aligned with registered training organisations to deliver various in-house qualifications under the Australian Qualifications Framework, such as the Certificate IV in Government, Advanced Diploma of Management and Graduate Certificate of Management. Managers work with staff to develop their careers with a view to leading them towards roles that better suit their skills and knowledge.
Join a talented and friendly team
Our employees are talented professionals, dedicated to commitment, hard work, achievement and initiative. They are highly valued people who support our central role in the Victorian Government’s ability to pay for hospitals, schools, police and other essential services. We are proud to have a low staff turnover. Our employees work well together to deliver excellent service and influence government decisions.
We value the combined efforts of our staff, who champion our corporate values as we continually work to improve our people management and leadership. At the SRO, we encourage people to be the best, lead the way and make a difference.
“At the State Revenue Office we really try to take into account people’s individual needs – their work-life balance, career desires and training requirements. We want people to develop to the best of their potential and really enjoy their working career at the SRO, while contributing to the growth of the state.”
- Paul Broderick, Commissioner of State Revenue
