Levy on taxi and hire car trips starts 1 July 2018

From 1 July 2018, a $1 levy applies to every taxi and hire car trip, including ride share, originating in Victoria.

If a trip is booked via a website, app or over the phone, the business taking the booking must pay the levy. If a trip starts at a rank or when a vehicle is hailed by a passenger, the driver or their employer must pay the levy.

Taxi and hire car businesses, including ride share, must register with us online. Once registered, a business must use our online portal to submit quarterly returns and pay the levy.

Registrations open 1 July 2018.
