Changes to state taxes December 2020
The State Taxation Acts Amendment Act 2020 received Royal Assent on 15 December 2020 and introduced changes to a number of Acts administered by the State Revenue Office.
It included revenue initiatives announced on 24 November 2020 as part of the 2020‑21 Victorian Budget. These resulted in amendments to the Duties Act 2000 and the Land Tax Act 2005.
Non-budget amendments were made to the Duties Act 2000, First Home Owner Grant Act 2000, Gambling Regulation Act 2003, Land Tax Act 2005, Taxation Administration Act 1997, and Valuation of Land Act 1960.
The Environment Protection Act 1970 and Environment Protection Amendment Act 2018 were also amended to increase Victorian landfill levies over two years from 1 July 2021. The levy is administered by the Environment Protection Authority.
Changes to state taxes April 2020
The State Taxation Acts Amendment (Relief Measures) Act 2020 received Royal Assent on 28 April 2020. It introduced various changes, including land transfer duty and payroll tax relief measures for bushfire affected areas which had previously been announced in January 2020.
Amendments were made to the Duties Act 2000, First Home Owner Grant Act 2000, Payroll Tax Act 2007, and the Taxation Administration Act 1997. The latter gave the Commissioner of State Revenue authority to effect emergency tax relief measures, such as those related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
