Vacant residential land tax (VRLT) is changing from 1 January 2025. Join one of our VRLT webinars this month to learn how these changes may affect you.

Changes to VRLT

From 1 January 2025, VRLT will apply to homes across all of Victoria if they are vacant for more than 6 months in the preceding calendar year.

Your use of the property in 2024 will impact whether you may be liable for VRLT in 2025.

Plus, a new progressive rate of tax will apply, based on the number of consecutive years the land has been liable for VRLT: 1% of capital improved value for the first year, 2% for the second year, 3% for the third year onwards.
