Lodge a return as an insurer
Guide to lodging an insurer return online and paying duty.
Background information
If you are a registered insurer, you must pay duty on the premiums paid for policies offering general insurance.
Your return and payment are due by the 21st of each month. For example, your February 2026 return is due by 21 March 2026.
You must lodge a return even if you do not owe duty for the month.
Step 1: Gather required information
To complete your return, you must provide:
- your customer name
- your customer number
- the period covered by the return
- the amount of duty payable for the return period.
Step 2: Complete and lodge return
Complete your return and pay your liability using the payment details shown on screen. Use the payment reference to ensure we allocate your payment to the correct return.
You can pay by VISA, MasterCard, BPAY or electronic funds transfer. A card payment fee of 0.45% applies to all credit card transactions.
Step 3: Save a copy of your return
Once you have completed your return, you can download and save a copy for your records.
This copy includes the payment details in case you want to pay your duty after submitting your return.
