The Victorian Unclaimed Money Register
If a business can’t return money to its owner, they must send it to the Victorian Unclaimed Money Register. You can search the register to see if any money belongs to you. It’s free to search and free to claim.
The register includes all funds with a gross amount of at least $20. Only the net amount appears in the register, so some amounts may show as less than $20. Unclaimed money includes:
- share dividends
- salaries and wages
- rent and bonds
- debentures and interest
- proceeds from a sale
- gaming winnings and prizes.
The register does not hold:
- money from lost or closed bank accounts
- shares
- investments
- life insurance policies.
Search for these types of unclaimed money on the Australian Securities and Investments Commission website.
It also does not include superannuation.
The Australian Taxation Office now handles all unclaimed super.
